Donovan Peoples-Jones, Detroit Lions
Donovan Peoples-Jones had a big year in 2022. He finished with 61 catches for 839 yards, three touchdowns, 18 punt returns for 223 yards, and a touchdown for the Cleveland Browns. However, in 2023, the Browns strengthened the wide receiver room by trading for Elijah Moore and drafting Cedric Tillman. Throw in the development of tight end David Njoku and Peoples-Jones was expendable.
The Browns traded him to the Detroit Lions. In eight games with Detroit, he had only 5 catches for 58 yards. While that was disappointing, he made some big catches. We remember when he made a huge catch on fourth down against the Bears that kept the drive alive and helped the Lions come back and win. He also had some key conversions against the Minnesota Vikings.
Knowing what he is capable of doing, the Chicago Bears could sign him to add some depth. Waldron can feel secure that he can go down to Peoples-Jones and know that he can make a big play. He won’t require much money and can end up being a steal. Furthermore, he can be a dependable backup. He can perform well and give the starter a good rest, keeping him healthy for later in the game.
