Round 2, pick 53: DT Mazi Smith, Michigan / 6’3 323 LBS
Mazi Smith is a physical specimen with loads of potential. For being 6’3 and over 320 pounds, his athleticism and speed is quite special. He has the talent to become an elite run defender at the next level, something the Chicago Bears need.
This is a guy who can just fill up space. His raw athleticism combined with his above par elusiveness makes him a perfect fit for this defense, who is still in need of an old school run stopper down low. He does struggle getting off double teams and doesn’t offer a ton when it comes to rushing the passer. He’s able to play nose tackle in a 3-4 front or become a wall in a 4-man front.
Check out number 58 on this clips, wreaking havoc in the run game.
Lol. Go to load up some Mazi Smith tape and literally the first play… pic.twitter.com/iB0dsSpDBt

Smith was a force at Michigan and one of the staples of their interior defense. He’s logged 5 tackles for loss over the past two seasons and 85 total tackles. He also forced one fumble in his final junior season, to go along with one half sack. Obviously, he’s not going to fill up the stat book with QB sacks, but every good defense needs a good wall like Smith.
Mazi Smith is a powerful force of nature on the defensive line, and I believe he could be a key part of the Chicago Bears one day if he’s there in the second round.
