Round 7, Pick 218: QB Aidan O’Connell, Purdue: 6’3 213 LBS
Back-to-back Purdue Boilermakers! It was expected that Ryan Poles would target a QB at some point in the later rounds, and Aidan O’Connell seems to be at the top of their interest. The Bears have already had two workouts with O’Connell, including a private visit that occurred a few weeks ago.
He’s got good zip on the ball from what I saw from him at Purdue. Accurate, high IQ, and seems to have a good understanding of running an offense. He’s not an athletic freak like some of these new age signal callers, but that’s why the Chicago Bears signed PJ Walker to be their backup.
O’Connell had a fantastic 2021 campaign but couldn’t follow it up this season. Hence why he’s projected to be a day three selection or worse. He’d be a nice selection here to fill out the QB room, and maybe force Peterman out.
