Round 2, Pick 47 (from WAS): DL Calijah Kancey, Pitt / 6’1 281 LBS
It’s starting to look more and more like he won’t be available come this pick, but he was in my simulation, so it was a no brainer. Kancey is creating buzz around his pre-draft measurables, which we’re eerily similar to that of All-Pro Aaron Donald’s. He’s a 6’1, 281-pound athletic freak who plays on the interior defensive line.
Kancey was unanimously selected to be a first time AP All-American. He produced 47 total pressures, which included 30 QB hurries. That’s a LOT for his position. He also had 8 sacks on the year which brought his collegiate total to 19. He’s a force inside when rushing the passer and has the potential to become a great run stopper one day with his low center of gravity. He’ll probably get some reps as an edge in the NFL as well.

The obvious “weakness” of Kancey is his size. At 6’1 280, he’s likely to get bullied by some bigger lineman at first. He’ll have to bulk up quite a bit and may just end up being a pass rush specialist. I, for one, think he will eventually become a solid run defender for whoever he’s drafted by. If the Chicago Bears grab him at 47, it would be an absolute steal.
