The Chicago Bears are in desperate need of wide receiver help as the 2022 season approaches and one name in particular has been rumored to hit the market if he’s cut by his team: Dallas’ Amari Cooper.
According to Bookies.com, if Cooper becomes a Cowboys’ cap casualty, the Bears are among the favorites to land the 27-year old wide receiver with +800 odds, 5th best in the lineup of potential teams. Bookies.com’s Adam Thompson had this to say about Dallas’ looming decision:
Dallas may entertain a trade but is reportedly prepared to cut Amari Cooper free, allowing him to choose his next destination. If he’s released by March 20, the Cowboys don’t need to pay Cooper and they get back $16M in cap space.
It is a rather significant chunk of change the 4-time Pro Bowler would probably request if he does indeed get released by Dallas. In 2021, Cooper tallied 68 receptions, 865 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns in 15 games for the Cowboys as one of Dak Prescott’s favorite targets. Ahead of the Bears in the odds to sign Cooper are
Miami Dolphins: +450
New York Jets: +500
New England Patriots: +600
Philadelphia Eagles: +750
The countdown is quickly approaching on the Cowboys’ decision on what to do with Cooper. With free agency starting up in a week, things may get real interesting for the Bears if they do decide to pursue him.
