NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero made another statement on his stance of the Chicago Bears’ job being Ben Johnson’s to lose
On Tuesday morning’s edition of Good Morning Football on NFL Network, major insider Tom Pelissero dropped another piece of information on the connection between the Chicago Bears and Ben Johnson. Pelissero has been all over the coaching carousel for the past couple of months and added more heat to the fire with this tidbit regarding Johnson and the Chicago Bears.
“The job that comes up more than any other comes within the division, it is with the Chicago Bears,” Pelissero said. “I am told that Ben Johnson is intrigued by that job and when it comes his time to interview, he is going to listen.”

While this is a lot of what Chicago Bears fans have already heard, it is promising to see continued reports on the matter and that mutual interest from both sides is very much alive. Pelissero mentioned that a tough part of interviewing Johnson is that this cycle stems from the success that Detroit is expected to have this postseason.
The Lions are competing for the top seed in the NFC on Sunday Night Football this week against Minnesota, but the bye going Detroit’s way could also very much benefit the Bears. The bye would allow Chicago to get much easier access to interviewing Johnson at an earlier time, which would help move this process along way easier.
Ben Johnson’s interest in coming to the Chicago Bears has been brewing for weeks now
The initial reports showed that the franchise began having interest in Johnson a couple of weeks ago and things have taken off from there. Johnson reciprocated the interest in coming to the Windy City just before the Lions and Bears squared off at Solider Field in week 16.
When Johnson looks at a job like the Chicago, Pelissero brings up the factors that have most likely kept him interested over the past few weeks. There is certainly more than just the on-field product that will attract candidates to become the next head coach of the Chicago Bears, and the hope for a new stadium is definitely one of those factors.
“You got a lot to like in Chicago,” he said. “With Caleb Williams, the raw talent there, they got a ton of cap space, they got extra draft picks, big market, they are hoping to break ground on a new stadium in 2025.”
Williams has shown what he is capable of while not working with a whole lot in his first NFL season. Johnson being able to pull out hook-and-ladder plays during games and his overall creativity with an offense would do wonders for a talent like the 2024 first-overall draft pick and the quality weapons he has established around him.
Along with Williams, Johnson had a promising second-year receiver in Rome Odunze is an interesting prospect to ponder over as well. Despite dealing with two different play-callers, a plethora of weapons and around him and having multiple games where the Chicago Bears offense did not find the endzone, Odunze has still had an impressive rookie year. The former Washington Huskie currently sits with 52 catches for 716 yards and three touchdowns on the campaign entering the final game against Green Bay on Sunday.
While the front office will have to await the outcome of Sunday’s battle between the Lions and Vikings, one thing that is crystal clear is the Chicago Bears have a fantastic opportunity to bring in a promising head coach to lead the franchise. The only question now is what direction they will take in this upcoming search.
