Cam Akers should be a target for the Chicago Bears

Cam Akers served in a backup capacity for the Houston Texans and Minnesota Vikings in 2024. Appearing in all 17 games – starting two of them – he ran for 444 yards and two touchdowns. Akers added another 14 receptions for 68 yards and three touchdowns.
The running back isn’t the player he was when he was starting games for the Los Angeles Rams. But he is still a solid producer whenever given the opportunity. His 4.3 yards per carry would’ve been the best among all running backs in Chicago during the 2024 campaign.
Akers hasn’t also been the most active back in the pass game. He has 52 receptions for 388 yards and four touchdowns over his career. But the 2024 campaign proved he can at least be versatile and work as an asset in the red zone.
Like each name on this last, Akers won’t be the most jaw dropping signing. But he makes sense as a well-rounded playmaker for Johnson and one who has proven he can operate well in a backup role.
