The Chicago Bears Head Coaching vacancy should be one of the premier openings in the NFL, but who is leading the pact for the job?
The Chicago Bears have a plethora of interesting names that they would like to have for their next head coach. The top choice for the Chicago Bears is current Detroit Lions Offensive Coordinator Ben Johnson, but it’s becoming more and more likely they may lose out on him. With others still available who has the best odds at becoming the next Chicago Bears Head Coach?
Top choices for the job?
As I said the Bears top choice to be their next head coach is the Detroit Lions Offensive Coordinator Ben Johnson. However, it’s becoming more and more clear that the Bears will lose out on Johnson who is being courted to be the Las Vegas Raiders next head coach. It was reported that minority owner on the Raiders Tom Brady was set to meet with Johnson in the coming days which could complicate things.
The Bears also lost out on their other top candidate for the job in Mike Vrabel who is reported to be the next head coach of the New England Patriots after the firing of Jarod Mayo.
Who else is in the running?
Other leading candidates for the position are recently dismissed Dallas Cowboys Head Coach Mike McCarthy who the Chicago Bears tried requesting to interview, but were denied permission. In a recent report after being let go by the Cowboys the Bears will in fact interview Mike McCarthy. The Bears also interviewed Ben Johnson’s cohort on the defensive side of the ball with having a zoom interview with Aaron Glenn.
Other names who have popped up as potential candidates are the Commanders OC Kliff Kingsbury, former Super Bowl Champion Coach Pete Carroll, Minnesota Vikings DC Brian Flores, and former Carolina Panthers Head Coach Mike Rivera to name a few.
Odds to land the Chicago Bears coaching job
Per Bears Wire they listed the odds of all the candidates and how they stack out in winning the job:
- Ben Johnson -125
- Mike McCarthy +200
- Kliff Kingsbury +700
- Pete Carroll +700
- Aaron Glenn +900
- Joe Brady +900
- Brian Flores +1000
- Todd Monken +1200
- Matt Campbell +1200
- Marcus Freeman +1400
- Mike Kafka +1400
- Drew Petzing +1800
So far the Chicago Bears have interviewed both Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn via zoom given they can’t officially do anything with either until after January 20th. Others who have been interviewed were Pete Carroll, Ron Rivera, Anthony Weaver, Mike Kafka, Drew Petzing and the Bears interim coach Thomas Brown.
