The Chicago Bears made a move that was speculated after the team’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday night.
The team announced on Sunday that they waived veteran cornerback Tim Jennings as they began roster cuts before Tuesday’s deadline. Jennings struggled in training camp and the preseason as he was also the 6th cornerback in rotation for the Bears vs the Bengals. The two-time Pro Bowler with the Bears struggled last season and lost out on the nickel job to Sherrick McManis this preseason. The move to cut the 31-year-old shows the Bears are looking to get younger at the position and willing to give others the chance.
In addition to cutting Jennings, the Bears also announced they have waived the following players:
- DB Malcolm Bronson
- DB Al Louis-Jean
- TE Kevin Greene
- WR Jeremy Kelley
- T Cameron Jefferson
- WR Levi Norwood
- RB Daniel Thomas
- LS Rick Lovato
- DE Olsen Pierre
- TE Chris Pantale
- WR John Chiles
The Bears also announced that safety Ryan Mundy has been placed on Injured Reserve. The veteran safety was dealing with a hip injury and it was apparently serious enough to put him out for the entire season. The move leaves another roster spot open as the team trims down to 75.
Wide receiver Kevin White was moved to the Physically Unable to Perform list.
