Michael Hall, Jr., Ohio State
One of the biggest needs for the Chicago Bears is improving the pass rush. While that area improved after the arrival of Montez Sweat, the defense still ranked 31st in the league with just 30 sacks. The pass rush was so bad that Sweat arrived mid-season and still led the team in sacks with 6.
If the defense can get an effective pass rush from the interior that makes the situation better for the unit. Michael Hall Jr can help that pass rush. At 6-foot-2, 290 pounds he is a tweener. However, his athleticism makes up for that. He is quick off the snap and he can offer flexibility on the line.
Since he is a tweener, Hall’s quickness, agility, and footwork allow him to play both defensive end and defensive tackle. He can play the one, two, or three-technique. That gives the coaching staff different options. They can move Hall around and he can help all along the line.
Hall has long arms that he can use to bat balls when he cannot get to the quarterback. Additionally, he has impressive strength. He can use an effective bull rush to move the blocker backward and pressure the quarterback.
