Ruke Orhorhoro, Clemson
The previous four prospects are projected to be third or fourth-round picks. After their two top-ten picks in the first round, they have one in the third and one in the fourth. However, there is the possibility of the Chicago Bears trading the ninth pick and acquiring more picks. That would most likely involve a second-round pick.
Poles could decide to go with a better talented defensive tackle to compete with Dexter for the starting job. They say that competition brings out better play so instead of just handing the job to Dexter having a competition could bring out even better play from him. It would also do the same with the prospect. For the Chicago Bears, it would be a win-win.
Coming from Clemson, where they had several talented defensive linemen, Ruke Orhorhoro had to wait his turn. When he finally did take over, however, he was impressive. He measures 6-foot-4, 295 pounds with 34-inch arms so that is impressive. Additionally, he is very athletic. He was listed as the most athletic defensive tackle in this year’s class of defensive tackles.
Ohorhoro is explosive off the snap and uses good leverage on blockers. He has great footwork and excellent hands. When he has space he shines both against the run and the pass. Opposing teams will have to run double teams at him to avoid that.
Orhorhoro can be effective in either the 3-4 or 4-3 scheme. While the Chicago Bears run a 4-3 scheme, they can occasionally change things up and Orhorhoro can succeed either way.
Orhorhoro has a mean demeanor on the field. He will try to embarrass would-be blockers and his high motor, effective movement, and physical play will wear down offensive linemen. The Chicago Bears need to get back to their Monsters of the Midway persona. Once he finds the pocket he can catch up to the quarterback. He ran a 4.89-40 at the NFL Combine so he has the speed to run down the quarterback.
Poles has set things up to have good duos on the roster. He has D.J. Moore and Keenan Allen, Cole Kmet and Gerald Everett, and D’Andre Swift and Roschon Johnson. Now he could have Dexter and Orhorhoro as defensive tackles. That gives the Chicago Bears great depth at those positions.
