Joe Alt, Offensive Tackle, Notre Dame
Here is another tackle who could be a great protector for Williams. Joe Alt is one of the best offensive tackle prospects in recent draft history. He measures 6-foot-9, 321 pounds. He is tall and lean and can swallow up whoever lines up in front of him.
Alt is another big guy who is very athletic. He started his high school career as a quarterback. Then he transitioned to tight end. Additionally, he played basketball. It was not until he got to Notre Dame that he became an offensive lineman. He gained 70 pounds but still maintained his athleticism.
Alt has great footwork and balance. He will not find himself off-balanced. His weight distribution is excellent so he won’t be caught leaning. He can take on a speed rusher or a bull rusher equally well. He can protect the outside corner against speed rushers and handles the inside counter effectively.
Alt communicates well with his guard. He handles basic line games, stunts, and twists easily using clear eyes, proper depth, timing, and spacing.
Alt has the genes to be a successful player. His father, John Alt, was a 13-year starter at left tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs who was a two-time Pro Bowler. He passed on his expertise to his son, who now looks to have even more success. Joe is only 21 years old yet plays like a veteran in his prime.
