Rome Odunze, Wide Receiver, Washington
The Chicago Bears could target another Washington offensive player other than Fautanu. Poles could decide to give Williams another target wide receiver Rome Odunze.
While the Chicago Bears have a great duo in Allen and D.J. Moore. How long Allen is in Chicago is a question, though. He is about to turn 32 on draft weekend. He has an injury history. He missed 41 games in his 11-year career. That history does not improve as a player ages.
Allen isn’t a long-term answer for the Chicago Bears. For Williams to succeed, he needs an elite receiver who can help him far into the future. That receiver could be Odunze.
In any other draft, Odunze would be the top wide receiver prospect. However, this class has Marvin Harrison Jr and Malik Nabers. It will be interesting to keep track of these three players’ careers.
At 6-foot-3, 212 pounds Odunze has great size for the position. In addition, he has the strength to bully defenders. He runs good routes to create separation. If he cannot get that separation, he uses his big body to shield the defender. He also uses his strength to outmuscle the defender and make the catch. With his strength, Odunze can break tackles. That allows him to have YAC (yards after catch) runs.
When the ball is in the air, Odunze tracks it well. He can leap and grab the ball at its highest point. He also has the body control and quick reaction skills to adjust to any throw, giving him a very quarterback-friendly catch radius. He will be a fan favorite with his circus catches.
Odunze is an intelligent player as well. He can see the weak point of a zone defense and manipulate it. Additionally, he does a great job of manipulating leverage in man coverage.
Having Moore and Allen on the Chicago Bears offense, Odunze does not have to come in and try to carry it. He can do his job and learn while making plays. Moore and Allen can also mentor him. There might not be many better teachers who can take the rookie under their wing and make him even better.
Having Odunze grow together with Williams will make their connection special. They could be together for a long time and help the Chicago Bears win many games.
