Who shows, who doesn’t?
Of course, OTAs are voluntary. However, as we know, most times they aren’t completely voluntary. While the team cannot do anything to players who do not show up, the coaches remember who was there at the start. Additionally, not showing up puts players behind.
All the players are learning a new system, at least on offense. Shane Waldron was hired after Luke Getsy was fired days after the end of the season. Yes, some players have a familiarity with the system. Waldron surely added wrinkles to take advantage of the players’ talents. One of the reasons for Getsy’s dismissal was his inability to take advantage of his players’ skill sets, especially quarterback Justin Fields.
Who shows up is important to see. However, seeing who does not show up is more interesting. It is also interesting what reasons these no-shows use for not showing up.
