Chicago Bears GM Ryan Poles has had a hectic and successful offseason. Poles was able to hire top candidate Ben Johnson, rebuild the interior offensive line completely, and add major pieces to the defense.
Recently, the Bears GM extended star defensive back Kyler Gordon, making him the highest-paid slot cornerback in the NFL with a whopping 3-year, $40M extension. Poles has prioritized extending key pieces of this football team, and he’s done it again.
In a new post on X from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, it has been revealed that the Bears have now extended another huge piece to Dennis Allen’s defense.
The Chicago Bears have agreed to a contract extension with TJ Edwards

According to Rapoport, the deal is a 2-year extension worth $20M with $16.6M fully guaranteed.

Edwards has been a key part of the Bears defense since joining the team in 2023. This past season, the veteran linebacker had a combined 129 tackles, 79 solo tackles, and 50 assisted tackles. He also had four sacks and an interception in 2024. In 2023, he had a combined 155 tackles as well as three interceptions and 2.5 sacks.
Edwards was also a team captain during the 2024 season and was a huge voice in the locker room. He is expected to be one of the leaders of the defense for the 2025 season.
The tackling machine has been a major part of the Bears defense, and is expected to have a great season under defensive coordinator Dennis Allen.
It is great to see that the Bears are prioritizing keeping key players for the long term. Hopefully, it can lead to winning football in Chicago.
