Round 1, Pick 10: OT Will Campbell, LSU / 6’6, 325 LBS

Will Campbell is the selection here, another one of the monster tackles available in this year’s draft. In my simulation, Kelvin Banks was already taken, he would have been the pick here if he was available. Campbell is a solid consolation prize.
Campbell has been the starting left tackle for LSU since he began his collegiate career, and hasn’t moved since. The All-American bulldozer has shown consistent improvement from year to year, thus making him a popular name amongst NFL scouts. His strength is protecting the passer, and being nasty while doing so. It’ll be interesting to see how does next week in Indianapolis, and if he’ll improve his stock at all.
The Bears have been linked as a team that could trade up for Campbell if they fall in love with him over the next couple of weeks of the pre-draft process.

The knock on Campbell at LT is his arm length, or lack thereof. I firmly believe his technique and strength will put those concerns to sleep. His tape is as impressive as it gets from a potential franchise-changing left tackle. Braxton Jones hasn’t shown nearly enough to be considered “safe”. Anyone on the line not named Darnell Wright should be ready to be replaced.
Bears QB Caleb Williams needs to be protected correctly in his sophomore season, and I’ve alluded to that many times in my previous pre-draft pieces. He was hit much too often last year. Offensive linemen are the foundation of an NFL offense, and a guy like Will Campbell could certainly be a cornerstone.
