Round 2, Pick 41: S Xavier Watts, Notre Dame / 6’0, 203 LBS

Watts is a player I think the Bears should target in this draft, especially if they don’t trade down from 41. The assumption is that they may, and it would be smart due to their lack of selections in the fourth round. While safety may not be the biggest need for Chicago, he would be the best available here, and that may be the better approach.
With Jaquan Brisker being a tad injury-prone of late and Kevin Byard being a cut candidate, safety could end up being a point of emphasis. Watts is a pure coverage safety who shows exceptional bursts on film and recognizes plays before they even happen.

Six interceptions in the 2024 campaign helped push Watts into first-round consideration, with the likelihood of him being selected in the second. His ability to go from elite single-high safety to box safety makes him a great target for any defense.
Double down on defense is risky, especially with all the offensive line issues, but there’s more talent in the third I think the Bears can get without reaching in the second.
