The Chicago Bears have hired Vic Fangio as defensive coordinator, according to reports on Tuesday.
Fangio was previously the defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers and was John Fox’s top choice for the job in Chicago. Fangio was reportedly leaning towards joining the Washington Redskins but has made the decision to join the Bears instead.
The #Bears are hiring former #49ers DC Vic Fangio, source says. He interviewed with the #Redskins, too.

The former 49ers defensive coordinator also held the same job for the Indianapolis Colts, Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans in his NFL coaching career. He will have the task of improving a Bears defense that was historically bad in 2013 and gave up the most points per game in 2014. Fangio’s 49ers defenses finished in the top 5 all four years he was there and led the league in turnovers in 2011.
Sources: #Bears also have parted ways with LB coach Reggie Herring, TE coach Andy Bischoff and special teams assistant Dwayne Stukes.
