The Chicago Bears need to add to both their Offensive and Defensive lines and this former Bears player agrees.
The Chicago Bears have two areas that they need to fill in order to be better next season and they are adding talent to the Offensive and Defensive lines. The Chicago Bears have the tenth overall pick in this years draft and figure to take an Offensive Lineman according to experts, but former Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs thinks they should go the defensive route instead.
Adding to the defense
In a recent interview with 670 The Score former Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs expressed that the Bears should look to add a defensive-lineman with their tenth overall pick. During his interview Briggs made his thoughts clear by expressing:
“The number one position we need is a three-technique [defensive tackle] the guy that plays in-between the guard and the tackle, because that guy creates for everyone,” Briggs said. “Then I need a defensive end, a right defensive end, a left defensive end, because these guys are going to create for everyone else. I need a weak side linebacker. I need corners that will come up and hit, safety that can be a field general. These are the guys I need, but more than anything else I need them to be disciplined, I need them to play sharp, I need them to play violent.”
Last season the Bears defensive ranked near the bottom in all major categories just like their offensive. Ranking 27th in total defense (354.2 yds), 16th in passing defense (217.9), 28th in rushing defense (136.3), and 13th in scoring (21.8).
Comparison to players on the roster
According to Briggs’s he says the Bears should look to take a “three-technique” lineman similar to that of defensive end Montez Sweat and defensive tackle Andrew Billings. The Bears need a solid pass-rusher who can get after the Quarterback and provide the needed pressure for edge-rushers Sweat and DeMarcus Walker to go get the Quarterback. We shall see in April which route the Chicago Bears ultimately decide to do down.
