Interviews have begun for the Chicago Bears as they hope to find their next defensive coordinator following the retirement of Chuck Pagano. It’s been just one week since the team held their end of season presser announcing Pagano was retiring and the process has officially begun.
Chicago has shown interest in Indianapolis’ Johnathan Gannon, Aaron Glenn and James Bettcher among others. But on Wednesday, a familiar name popped up in the job search.
According to The Athletic’s Adam Jahns, the Bears interviewed Hall of Fame and former Bears linebacker Mike Singletary earlier this week:

Singletary becomes the latest name connected with the Bears as this job search continues on. But just how realistic is it that they hire Singletary? I’d say is a very low percentage.
The former middle linebacker that was an anchor on Chicago’s defense through the 80’s and early 90’s has coaching experience as he got his start as the linebackers coach in Baltimore in 2003. From there, he went on to coach in San Francisco as the linebackers coach and interim head coach before spending two seasons as the full-time head coach.
Things didn’t work out for Singletary in San Francisco going 14-18 in those two seasons. Since then, he’s coached in Minnesota, Los Angeles, in the AAF and at the High School level. Most recently he coached Trinity Christian Academy in Texas but resigned after going 1-21.
It’s very unlikely the Bears would hire Singletary as their defensive coordinator but they could be looking to get some insight on their defense.
