Trade: The Chicago Bears receive the #30 overall pick to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for the #39 overall pick and the #72 overall pick.
Round 1, #30 Overall — Josh Simmons, Offensive Line, Ohio State
Poles pulls off a huge trade here. He uses one of his two second round picks, along with his third round pick, to move back into the first round and picks up a player who could be the best offensive lineman in the class, Josh Simmons.
Had it not been for an injury that cut his season after just six games, Simmons would be a top-ten pick. He measures 6-foot-3, 325 pounds and has good quickness and athleticism. His quick feet allow him to mirror pass rushers and keep them in front of him.
Simmons also has the power to keep bull rushers at bay. He has a powerful punch that could knock pass rushers off-balance. That has been one of the criticisms of Jones. He has had trouble with bull rushers. Now with the injury concern, that question could be bigger.
Simmons also uses his strength and power to move defenders out of the way in the run game. He will help open some big holes and seal the edge for the running game to flourish.
Simmons can come in and be the starter from Day 1. Jones has not been bad so he could provide the Chicago Bears very good depth. Add in Kiran Amegadjie and the offense line could have a lot of talent and depth this season.

A little fyi Josh Simmons didn’t have an ACL tear. It was far worse. The patella tendon. Grade 3. No OL has ever come back from this injury. Not full strength. Jimmy Graham is the exception. Except he doesn’t block 300 pound DE for a living. The consensus is that At Best, since he’s young and hungry, he could come back at close to 80-90% power he once had. At best. And 10-20% less power is the equivalent of a sandwich block and being driven into the QB.
