Round 5, #148 Overall — Malachi Moore, Safety, Alabama
Without their third round pick, the Chicago Bears have to wait until the fifth round for their next pick. Here they select Malachi Moore out of Alabama. While Kevin Byard did not have a bad season in 2024, he is in the final seasons of his career. We saw with Eddie Jackson how quickly a player can fall off the cliff.
Moore is a playmaker who thrives playing in deep centerfield. He has great instincts and athleticism. Additionally, he shines with his awareness, strong coverage skills, and anticipation. He can play deep or blitz as well. In his career, he has 7 interceptions to go with 16 tackles for loss.
Moore can play all safety spots. At Alabama he played the high, low, and slot. The Bears have had trouble with Jaquan Brisker‘s injuries. Moore can step up and play the strong safety in a pinch. However, the free safety is his bread and butter. In 2024, he led the Crimson Tide with 8 passes defended.

A little fyi Josh Simmons didn’t have an ACL tear. It was far worse. The patella tendon. Grade 3. No OL has ever come back from this injury. Not full strength. Jimmy Graham is the exception. Except he doesn’t block 300 pound DE for a living. The consensus is that At Best, since he’s young and hungry, he could come back at close to 80-90% power he once had. At best. And 10-20% less power is the equivalent of a sandwich block and being driven into the QB.
