Round 7, #233 Overall — Cody Simon, Linebacker, Ohio State
One of the moves the Chicago Bears made this offseason was to cut linebacker Jack Sanborn. That means there is an opening for the starting strong side linebacker. One of the players who could compete for the job is the #233 overall pick, Cody Simon out of Ohio State.
The 6-foot-1, 230 pounder had a productive 2024 season. He recorded 112 tackles and 7 sacks. His ability to read and react around the line of scrimmage is excellent. While Simon is not a violent downhill hitter, he is able to maneuver around blockers and get to the ball carrier. Once he gets to him, he finishes well. He is consistent in his tackling and plays under control.
Additionally, Simon is an elite blitzer who can affect the pocket. He will force the quarterback to move and/or throw before he wants. His athletic ability is good enough to change directions well in space. He can play well in coverage but is better in man to man coverage.

A little fyi Josh Simmons didn’t have an ACL tear. It was far worse. The patella tendon. Grade 3. No OL has ever come back from this injury. Not full strength. Jimmy Graham is the exception. Except he doesn’t block 300 pound DE for a living. The consensus is that At Best, since he’s young and hungry, he could come back at close to 80-90% power he once had. At best. And 10-20% less power is the equivalent of a sandwich block and being driven into the QB.
