Round 1, #10 Overall — Kelvin Banks, Jr, Offensive Tackle, Texas
The Chicago Bears have had Braxton Jones as their starting left tackle for three seasons. The fifth-round pick was a surprise winner of the job and has held it ever since. While he has done a good job, the Bears (especially Williams) need an elite player to protect the blindside.
By adding Kelvin Banks, Jr with the 10th overall pick, the Bears get their elite left tackle. He has athletic traits that teams love. The 6-foot-5, 315 pounder has excellent footwork and moves quickly. Banks has excellent short-area explosiveness. His low center of gravity and strength allow him to drive defenders off the line with ease.
Banks’ good hand movements help him win one-on-one matchups. He has a good feel for his punch range and knows when to throw his hands. His lateral movement is great and combined with his quickness he handles counter moves well.
Having Banks in the lineup helps the Chicago Bears’ depth on the offensive line. Jones can be the backup so in case there is an injury the unit can handle it. That has been a big problem in recent years.
