Round 2, #39 Overall — Mike Green, EDGE, Marshall
One of the other moves Poles made this offseason was cut starting EDGE DeMarcus Walker. That opens up a spot. Austin Booker, who showed some flashes in 2024, should get an opportunity to start. However, he is a second-year player so there could be a competition for the job.
With the selection of Mike Green, the two could compete for the job. However, there are rumors that the Chicago Bears could be eyeing a veteran pass rusher to take over. Khalil Mack has been one of the names mentioned. In either case, Green adds some depth to the defensive line.
Green is a high-energy pass rusher whose abilities translate to the next level. He has explosive power and possesses a natural and instinctive rush. His bend and agility also help him. Some believe he could be a consistent double-digit sack man. the 6-foot-3, 251 pound pass rusher plays with a high motor.
Green will likely need to build up his strength a little. That is probably the reason he drops into the second round. Building up his strength should not be a problem, though, and getting him in the second round will be huge for the Chicago Bears.
However, his ability to blow past offensive linemen at the blink of an eye makes him very attractive. Both he and Booker have great quickness that allows them to get into the opponent’s backfield quickly. That will put pressure on quarterbacks and ease Montez Sweat‘s job on the other side.
