Round 3, #72 Overall — Barrett Carter, Linebacker, Clemson
The Chicago Bears made a surprise move when they decided not to tender a contract to linebacker Jack Sanborn. That made him a free agent. Now they have a need at the linebacker. They currently have Tremaine Edmunds, T.J. Edwards, Noah Sewell, Swayze Bozeman, and Carl Jones Jr as the linebackers.
The Chicago Bears could go after a veteran free agent to be a starter. They would also strengthen the unit by selecting Barrett Carter out of Clemson. Carter measures in at 6 feet tall and 231 pounds. While he played a lot of middle linebacker at Clemson, he projects as a SAM (strong side) linebacker at the pro level. That is just great for the Chicago Bears since that was Sanborn’s position.
In 2024, Carter was a third team All-American and first team All-ACC. He was a finalist for the Butkus Award, given to the best linebacker in the nation. Additionally, he started all 14 games and recorded 82 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, with 3.5 sacks, and 7 passes defended.
