Round 7, #242 Overall — Patrick Jenkins, Defensive Tackle, Tulane
With the final pick of the draft the Chicago Bears add another defensive tackle in Patrick Jenkins. The 6-foot-2, 293 pounder is another athletic player that Poles desires. He was a dominant force for Tulane who utilized his quickness and pass-rushing ability to wreak havoc in the opponent’s backfield.
Jenkins recorded 13 sacks in his three seasons. He also had 107 tackles, 28 of them for loss. He has a high motor and is relentless when pursuing the ball carrier. Even when he does not get to the quarterback, he can cause pressure, which forces the quarterback to move around and throw before he wants.
Jenkins has impressive upper body strength that helps him shed would-be blockers. He has the ability to maintain control. However, he needs to improve his pass-rushing moves. He mainly utilizes a deadly swim move, but will have to add variety so he can keep offensive linemen off balanced. He would be a good depth piece for the Chicago Bears defensive line.
