Round 3, #72 Overall — Andrew Mukuba, Safety, Texas
The Chicago Bears have Kevin Byard as their free safety. However, they need to prepare to replace him. He has more seasons behind him than ahead of him. Since they have taken care of other areas, they can afford to draft his replacement. That player is Andrew Mukuba.
Mukuba is a good coverage safety who has good ball skills. He does incredible work in the film room and that allows him to process plays quickly. It also helps him be natural with his fluidity and quickness. Mukuba was a transfer from Clemson. While at Clemson, he was able to break up passes and handle the deep ball. In Texas, he was able to pick passes, recording five interceptions in 2024.
Mukuba does a good job of playing the throw and not the receiver. He normally will not fall for a lot of moves made. He plants and drives and has no wasted motion. His concentration is on the throw and he is able to jump the pass and make the play. he has good timing when jumping for the ball and gets to it at its highest point.
Mukuba is a talented playmaker and a ball hawk who can eventually be an effective starter. Should Byard fall off a cliff Mukuba can step up and do a good job.
