Round 7, #240 Overall, Jackson Woodard, Linebacker, UNLV
One of the moves the Chicago Bears did was to cut starting strong side (SAM) linebacker Jack Sanborn. Now Sanborn is back with former Bears head coach Matt Ebeflus with the Dallas Cowboys. With their final pick of the draft they replace Sanborn with Jackson Woodard out of UNLV.
Woodard is a high impact run defender who plays downhill and makes big plays. In 2024, he had an elite 15.4 percent run-stop rate. He amassed 251 total tackles (26 for loss) in the past two seasons. Of his 26 tackles for loss in that period, 17 of them came in 2024. He also added 3.5 sacks.
Woodard is not just a run stopper. In 2024 he had 11 passes defended. He is a great tackles who has a great change of direction in space. He can handle both zone and man-to-man coverages. His tackling form is excellent. He wraps up well and runs his feet through the contact.
Woodard is an exciting player and could become a fan favorite, just like Sanborn. He plays tough and he makes plays. He would be a good addition to the Chicago Bears defense.
