The Chicago Bears have announced that former players Gale Sayers and Mike Singletary will be the teams honorary captains for Sunday’s season opener against Buffalo. The Hall of Famers will be on the field for the coin flip and will be announced as captains.
Sayers played all seven years with the Bears rushing for 4,956 yards and 39 touchdowns. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1977.
Singletary won a Super Bowl with the Bears as a captain and leader of the feared 46 defense the Bears ran. The middle linebacker spent 12 seasons with the Bears recording 19 sacks, 7 interceptions and 159 tackles. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1998.
