Braxton Jones, Offensive Line
Braxton Jones is a player who will make the roster. He has been a decent offensive lineman in his two seasons with the Chicago Bears. However, the Bears don’t need decent players anymore. It is playoffs or bust so they need players who move the needle.
Poles drafted Kira Amegadjie to help the offensive line. He may need some seasoning before he becomes a starter. However, if he shows that he can handle the starting left tackle job now, the Bears won’t hesitate to give him the job.
That is exactly how Jones got his job. He was a fifth-round pick who started out trying to make the roster. He played well during camps, however. The Bears gave him a fair shot at winning the job and before training camp started he beat out second-round pick Teven Jenkins.
Third-round pick Amegadjie has the size and athleticism to handle the job. He also has good strength. One of the areas that Jones still struggles with is handling the bull rush. Amegadjie has been able to handle that. Of course, an NFL-level bull rush is different from college. If Amegadjie can take the step up and handle that right away he could find himself the starter this season.
Even if Amegadjie beats out Jones, Jones will still be on the team. He will provide great depth at the tackle spot. He can handle both tackle spots so he could provide rotational help. As a backup, the Chicago Bears would have a deep unit.
