The Chicago Bears will need to really focus on fixing their offensive line given how poorly they protected Caleb Williams last season, giving up a league-high 68 sacks in 2024. There are currently multiple spots open on the offensive line for next season and the Bears could look to take an o-lineman with their 10th pick.
Even though the offensive line is bad, the defensive line is in just as poor of condition. The Bears could look to add another elite pass rusher to pair with Montez Sweat. In a new mock draft, the Bears are predicted to take one of Penn State’s elite edge rushers with their 10th overall pick.
The Chicago Bears need to address the trenches.
The Bears were rated as one of the worst offenses and defenses in the NFL last season, being at the bottom of the pack in all categories except one. The only area that the Bears were at least decent in was their pass rush, being in the middle of the pack with allowing 217.9 yards. The Bears leader in sacks last season was defensive lineman Montez Sweat, who had 5.5 sacks and was second on the team in forced fumbles with 9, trailing Bears linebacker T.J. Edwards (12).
Predicted to take Penn State’s Abdul Carter
In his latest mock draft, CBS Sports’ Chris Trapasso has the Bears drafting elite edge rusher Abdul Carter with their pick in this year’s draft. Trapasso wrote of the Bears possibly taking Carter with their 10th pick, writing:
“Abdul Carter would be a boon for the Bears at No. 10 overall given his burst, flexibility, length, and ascending power.”
During Carter’s time at Penn State, he has a total of 23 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, and 173 total tackles. This season proved to be Carter’s best season so far, with a total of 12 sacks, 68 total tackles, and 2 forced fumbles. Carter isn’t expected to be available at 10 when it’s time for the Bears to pick, with most experts predicting he will go top five.
If for some reason Carter is there when it’s time for the Bears to pick, they might have a tough decision to make on whether they address the offensive or defensive lines. The Bears are predicted to take LSU’s top offensive tackle/guard, Will Campbell, with the pick, but that could change if Carter is available.
