Chicago Bears vs. Houston Texans
The game played at the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium ended with a 21-17 win for the Chicago Bears. Rypien and Johnson made the most of their playing time, rallying their team to overcome deficits in two crucial instances. The Texans scored on their first two possessions, taking a 10-0 lead in the game.
The Bears reduced the deficit to 10-7 through Rypien’s touchdown strike to Johnson halfway in the second quarter. The Texans again responded by taking the game to 17-7, but on-form Rypien helped reduce the deficit to 17-14 with a near-perfect pass to Swenney with only 46 seconds left in the first half. The Bears got their first lead of the game when Rypien and Johnson later connected for a second touchdown in the third quarter of the game.
Rypien had replaced Bagent on the game’s second drive, throwing three touchdown passes on four possessions, two of which were sent to Johnson. Before the excitement of the third quarter, Rypien had completed an impressive 11 of 15 passes.
The game was, however, suspended with 3:30 minutes remaining due to heavy rain and lighting. After 35 minutes, it was postponed with the score 21-17.
Buffalo Bills vs. Chicago Bears
The game saw quarterback Caleb Williams make his highly awaited preseason debut, and he didn’t disappoint. Displaying his agility and accuracy, Williams stole the show and made drives that gave the Bears a 6-0 lead through teammate Santos.
Williams was, however, replaced in the second quarter by Bagent, who completed 5 out of 8 passes before being replaced by Rypien in the third period. It was an overall great team performance with players like Velus Jones Jr., who is auditioning at the running back position from being a receiver getting on the score sheet. Ian Wheeler was also on the score sheet, twice widening the gap to the final 33-6 scoreline.
Chicago Bears vs. Cincinnati Bengals
The Bears registered their third preseason win by defeating the Bengals in a convincing 27-3 victory. The game started sluggishly, with the Bears finding their footing in the second quarter and registering their first score through a field goal by Cairo Santos from 37 yards. A few moments later, Caleb Williams made a 7-yard run for a touchdown following Cairo Santos’ kick.
Before the end of the second quarter, Evan McPherson got on the score sheet with a field goal from 54 yards. In the third quarter, Dante Pettis got on the scoresheet with two touchdowns, both being passes from Tyson Bagent, who came on in the second half. Cairo Santos finished the scoring in the fourth quarter with a field goal from 51 yards.
Defensively, the Bears got the better of the Bengals, keeping them away from their red zone for most of the game and keeping their scoreline to only 3. The off-field highlight of the game was Simone Biles, who came to cheer her husband, Jonathan Owens, while wearing a Green Bay Packers jacket, a rival and a team Owens played for last year before joining the Bears.
Kansas City Chiefs vs. Chicago Bears
This will be the last preseason match for the Chicago Bears as they play against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium. The match to be played later this week will be highly anticipated, with all eyes on the Bears to see whether they will complete four out of four wins in their preseason games.
By looking at their last five games, the Bears have been on an impressive form, winning four out of five. City Chiefs have been on a less successful run, winning three out of five, with their last two games ending in defeat at the hands of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Detroit Lions. But as the last preseason game, anything might happen as both teams go for each other as they prepare for the new season. Who is your money on?
