Chicago Bears QB Caleb Williams hilariously explains his “Welcome to the NFL” moment
The Chicago Bears have been in quarterback hell for the better part of… well their entire existence. Even though this organization has had many great seasons in the past, and is one of the most historic in the league, they’ve still yet to find a true franchise quarterback. There’s been many candidates but none have amounted to the success that fans have wanted.
There is, however, hope for Caleb Williams to be that next guy in line. He had a pretty solid rookie season if you ask me, tossing for 3,451 yards and 20 touchdowns. He also kept his turnovers down, throwing just 6 interceptions during his rookie campaign.
Many Chicago Bears fans have been back and fourth on whether or not Williams is the answer, but you can’t deny the excitement he brings to the table every Sunday. He’s given this fanbase something they’ve longed for and that is hope. Even with success, every rookie in the league has a welcome to the NFL moment, and Williams surely had his.
This morning, Detroit Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown posted the newest episode of he and his brother’s podcast, St. Brown Podcast, which featured the young Bears signal caller. Williams explained that his welcome to the NFL moment was given to him by former All-Pro DE, Za’Darius Smith.
Like when Za’Darius hit me, man he smoked me. Obviously he’s been a dominant player, still is a dominant player, been in the league for a while, getting a little older. Boy came out there and SMOKED me, I didn’t realize he was mad strong too.
Williams also details later in the interview that he’s “used to taking and evading” certain hits in the pocket, but when it came to Smith it was a different story. The former All-Pro has had a solid year for the Lions and has contributed to their success in 2024-25.
Hopefully in the next season, the Chicago Bears can protect Williams and keep him healthy so the development can continue. GM Ryan Poles needs to nail this draft, and continue building this roster.
