The Chicago Bears announced on Tuesday that they have released tackle Jermon Bushrod.
Ryan Pace has made another big move in the 2016 NFL off-season just days after announcing running back Matt Forte won’t return. On Tuesday, the Bears announced that they have released tackle Jermon Bushrod after he spent three seasons with the team.

The veteran Bushrod had a poor 2015 season as he struggled with injuries and eventually lost his starting job to Charles Leno Jr. Even so, Bushrod still remained a true professional although he likely knew his time in Chicago was coming to an end.
With the move, the Bears will now have an additional $4.4M in cap space this free agency period. In total, the Bears are one of five NFL teams with more than $50M to spend in free agency with their total coming out to be somewhere around $60M. Pace and his staff will have the money to bring in the free agents they want during this critical offseason.
The departure of Bushrod also means that offensive tackle becomes an even more bigger need to address through free agency or even the draft. Sitting at No. 11, it’s possible that Notre Dame’s Ronnie Stanley could be there for them to select.
