Sione Vaki, Utah
Sione Vaki is a very interesting prospect. The Chicago Bears could go with a free agent and still draft a reserve. Vaki could be an excellent option if they go that way. He was a two-way player at Utah, playing both safety and running back. Utah suffered many injuries in the backfield that destroyed their season.
Because of the injuries, Vaki got a chance to run in the backfield. He showed good vision and straight-line speed. He also displayed good elusiveness. He uses his speed, athleticism, and toughness well in both positions.
The Chicago Bears may have a need at running back as well. While they have Khalil Herbert and Roschon Johnson, D’Onta Foreman, who was instrumental in certain games, likely won’t return. No matter who ends up under center in 2024, the Bears cannot continue to have the quarterback be the leader of the rushing attack.
Vaki adds a ton of versatility on both offense and defense. He can be Chicago’s super sub, giving coaches on both sides the ability to open up their playbook. As a defensive back, Utah utilized Vaki all over the formation. He spent time as a single-high defender, in the slot, and in the box. At 6 feet tall and 210 pounds he has good size at either running back or safety.
The Chicago Bears could get a two-for-one deal with Vaki. He is an interesting prospect and a team can get a lot by selecting him.
