Tykee Smith, Georgia
One of the things that the Chicago Bears want to do is add players with a winning pedigree. Tykee Smith is one of those players. He has experience playing in highly intense games and was a key contributor in the Georgia Bulldogs’ national championship of 2022.
Despite being 5-foot-11 and having short arms, Smith is dependable in coverage. He is disruptive in coverage and plays through the hands of the receiver. He gets to the receiver at the catch point and can knock the ball away. His tracking skills are very good and when the ball is in the air he can make the play on the ball. In 2023, he had four interceptions.
Smith is also a very good tackler. He has good technique and likes to hit hard. He recognizes screens quickly and sheds blocks to get to the receiver. His fluid hips allow him to change direction quickly. He is another player who adds versatility. His frame, skill set and play style help him play both the safety position as well as the nickel back.
Smith has a great football IQ and will make big plays at the next level. He draws comparisons to Chauncey Gardner-Johnson. If he can play similarly he will have a good career for the Chicago Bears.
