Kamren Kinchens, Miami (FL)
Kamren Kinchens is one of the most experienced and NFL-ready safeties in this draft. He got a lot of playing time in his freshman season. By the end of that year, he was the starter. He remained the starter for the rest of his time at Miami. The Hurricanes have a history of having good NFL-quality defensive backs and Kinchens could be the next in line to continue the legacy.
Kinchens has a lot of experience both as a single, high-safety, and in man in the slot. He can be utilized in the box as well. He has good route recognition and reads and reacts well to the quarterback’s eyes. He locates the ball quickly and has the range to meet the target and break up the pass.
In the past two seasons, he recorded 11 interceptions, forced two fumbles, and had two fumble recoveries. Additionally, he had 15 passes defended.
As a run defender, Kinchens can read and diagnose the play quickly. He can run from his deep safety position and get to the ball carrier. Additionally, he can make the tackle from the box. When he sees where the ball carrier is, he attacks quickly until there is a violent end. He enjoys playing a physical game both against the ball carrier as well as would-be blockers.
Kinchens is an excellent safety who gives the coaching staff a lot of versatility. He can play single-high safety or in the box. He can play the nickel or take on tight ends in the slot. He plays well in coverage or against the run. He would make an excellent addition to the Chicago Bears defense.
