The Chicago Bears are going through a slew of interviews to find their next head coach. So far they’ve conducted a handful of interviews with a variety of coaches with many different coaching styles.
The Baltimore Ravens are one of, if not the, top teams in the NFL. Thanks to their tandem of Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry, and their longtime offensive coordinator Todd Monken, the Ravens have a chance to potentially win this year’s Super Bowl.
Todd Monken set to interview with the Chicago Bears
The 58-year-old Todd Monken has been in the National Football League for 37 years when this upcoming season starts. Monken has been the Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator for the past six years.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, he reported via his X account that the Bears will interview Todd Monken this Friday. This interview will most likely be another Zoom meeting, being that teams cannot interview head coaches until after Jan. 20 per their contracts.
Monken and his Ravens offense are the best in the NFL. The Ravens rank in the top 10 or at the top of all the major offensive categories. The Ravens were first in total offense (464), seventh in passing (165), first in rushing (299), third in scoring (28 points), and first in red zone offense (74.2%).
Why adding Todd Monken could work out for the Bears
Monken has one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL and possibly in the history of the NFL. The two-time MVP, Lamar Jackson, had a phenomenal season that could notch him his third MVP award. Jackson threw for 41 touchdowns, threw for 4,172 yards, completed 66.7% of his passes, and only threw 4 interceptions. Monken has been Lamar’s coordinator since he debuted in the league, and he’s one of the reasons we see the superstar Lamar is today.
If the Bears hired Monken to do what he did with Lamar and bring it to Chicago to unlock Caleb Williams’s potential, the Bears could possibly have the next Lamar Jackson. Williams has been compared to Patrick Mahomes once he unlocks his full ability. Appearing on the St. Brown Podcast, Williams described who he would want the Bears to hire as their next head coach, expressing he wants to see a
”Strong minded and a leader of men. Selfishly I want an offensive minded guy so I can build with him and be with that coach for the next 15+ years. And that way I can learn and grown.”
With the Ravens having the potential to win this year’s Super Bowl with their offense leading them there, adding Monken could be an under-the-radar move for the Bears. His name hasn’t been thrown out a lot for being a possible head coach in the league, but maybe with that being the case, that could benefit the Bears.
