While the NFL scouting combine is the main focus in Indianapolis this week, the future of a Chicago Bears wide receiver may have been revealed.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Chicago Bears are expected to use the franchise tag on receiver Alshon Jeffery. Schefter reported that the Bears did use it early on Friday. However, various members of the Chicago media are reporting that the two sides are still looking to get a long-term deal done.
Hardly a surprise, but Bears are placing franchise tag on WR Alshon Jeffery, per team source.

As of 5 p.m. CT on Friday, the franchise tag transaction had not gone threw to the NFL news wire.
It was reported earlier in the week that the two sides are working to get that deal done so that Jeffery won’t get tagged. That seems to be true now more than ever and the franchise tag will likely be placed if they cant work anything out by next Tuesday.
One thing that is clear is that both sides want the same thing: Jeffery staying in Chicago. The Bears could opt to use that franchise tag and pay Jeffery $14M in 2016, forcing him to prove his worth for a long-term deal. It also could mean that General Manager Ryan Pace is hesitant in giving Jeffery the deal he wants after he missed 7 games last season.
Whatever happens, the goal of keeping Jeffery in Chicago is one that both sides really should have.
