Chicago Bears round two target: Xavier Watts

The Bears safety position is set for now, but things look a bit grey there beyond this upcoming season. Jaquan Brisker has been impactful in his time with the Bears, but his injury history makes it hard for him to be a trustworthy option in the long run. Kevin Byard had a strong first season in Chicago last year, but he is on the final season of his current contract and he isn’t getting any younger. Watts would be an interesting prospect to look at as a guy to come in and be apart of this secondary’s future.
Watts would be a solid fit in Allen’s defense for a few reasons. He has great ball tracking skills and can play multiple positions in the secondary, including slot corner. If the staff isn’t impressed with Tyrique Stevenson’s play early on in the season, the can move things around to have Watts play alongside Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon in the cornerback spots.
Watts had 13 interceptions in his final two seasons at Notre Dame, which included six in 2024. He had 83 total tackles this past season in a year where the Fighting Irish fell to Ohio State in the national title game.
