Running back Matt Forte wasn’t the only Chicago Bear missing from the teams voluntary workouts last week. ESPN’s Jeff Dickerson reports that Martellus Bennett has been absent from workouts.
Bennett did not attend the first phase of workouts for the team as it transitions to a three-day minicamp this week because of the new coaching hire. He was at Halas Hall to greet teammates however during the week. While the April workouts are voluntary and are not required to be attended, it will be interesting to see if Bennett shows up this week.
The tight end is coming off a career season in 2014 with 90 receptions for 1,038 yards and six touchdowns. He signed a four-year deal in 2013 with $9.2 million of the $20.4 million guaranteed in the deal. In addition to his $4.9 million base salary, Bennett can also earn $100,000 as a workout bonus.
It should also be noted that Bennett’s brother, Michael, has not attended the Seattle Seahawks voluntary workouts as well.
The only mandatory work for the Bears before July’s training camp will be June’s minicamp.
