As the Chicago Bears begin to report to training camp we look at some position battles that could be very interesting.
Training camp is upon us! The Chicago Bears start to report for camp. The rookies report on Tuesday and the veterans on Friday. Once all the players are in, the preparations for the 2024 regular season ramp up. We finally get to see the players in their pads, hitting each other.
Another thing we get to see is the players battling among each other for a position on the roster. A lot of the positions are set but there are still a few to watch. Additionally, there are some battles for the backup spots up for grabs as well. It is important not only to have quality starters but also quality backups. We already saw over the years how the Chicago Bears’ seasons went down due to not having good backups.
One of the things that Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles is proud of this offseason is that it is more difficult to make this team. In the recent past, the quality of the players needed was not very high. That has all changed this year. Poles has a quality team that wants to be competitive. There is quality throughout the roster now.
Seeing players battle for their lives is a good thing. As they say “Iron sharpens iron,” If you have good players battling for a starting spot, they will play their butts off to win a job. That means both of them will play better. Even if a player loses out, he will be much better because of the battle. That makes the team better.
Poles has an interesting blend of veterans and youngsters now. When he took over the team in 2022, it was one of the oldest in the NFL. Now it is among the youngest. A big number of his draft picks are starters or key backups. This team is also more athletic and ready to battle for the NFC North Division title.
Here are some position battles to look for during the Chicago Bears training camp.
