Kiran Amegadjie, Offensive Lineman
Kiran Amegadjie has a lot to show during training camp. He missed all of OTAs and veteran minicamp due to an injury he suffered last season with Yale. The Chicago Bears hope that he is now healthy enough to show what made the team attracted to him.
The team wanted to keep Amegadjie off the field to have him ready for training camp. Now that training camp is here, there are many who want to see what he brings to the team. Additionally, he is a local kid
If healthy, the team wants him to be the swing tackle. He can be an insurance policy for tackles Braxton Jones and Darnell Wright. He can step in some snaps and give them a rest. The team could envision him as the starting left tackle. Braxton Jones is there now and doing a decent job.
However, with the new offense now in place, the Chicago Bears need more than just a decent tackle. They need something better, someone who could protect the main guy, Williams. Moreover, he could become a fan favorite since he is a local kid. He is from Hinsdale and went to Hinsdale Central High School.
Amegadjie is 6-foot-5, 325 pounds. Despite that size, he is very athletic. He has great footwork and has a high football IQ. He recognizes stunts quickly and adjusts accordingly. Additionally, he is incredibly strong. He can stop a pass rusher dead in his tracks. That is something needed. Jones has had trouble with bull rushes. Amegadjie could take on those blocks and stop the rush.
The Chicago Bears coaching staff hope that Amegadjie is the future of the offensive line. At the moment, he gives them great added depth on the line. That is very important since we saw many offensive line units that got obliterated due to injuries. There was not enough depth to overcome injuries. Things are different with Amegadjie. If he doesn’t win the starting job this year, he will provide the Bears a quality depth piece.
