The Chicago Bears, in addition to strengthening the offensive line in front of Caleb Williams, must find a way to build out the roster in new head coach Ben Johnson’s image this offseason.
In a lot of ways, the Bears’ personnel is already similar to the group Johnson leveraged into one of the more explosive offenses in the NFL. Receivers D.J. Moore and Rome Odunze are dynamic yet complementary players at the position, running back D’Andre Swift is a versatile threat as a runner as well as a receiver out of the backfield, and Cole Kmet is a reliable and sure-handed tight end.
Yet, if anything was made obvious by Sam LaPorta’s emergence as one of the most dominant players at his position during Johnson’s time in Detroit, it is that for the Bears’ offense to be most successful it may need another dynamic pass-catching tight end.
Could the Chicago Bears take Tyler Warren at No. 10?

As Sumer Sports points out, the Detroit Lions ran 12-personnel (two-tight ends) on 32.2 percent of offensive snaps last season, third most across the NFL.
While having two tight ends on the field helped spring Lions running backs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery, LaPorta became indispensable to the Lions’ success in the passing game.
Johnson, general manager Ryan Poles, and the Bears may have the chance to select their LaPorta later this spring during the 2025 NFL Draft.
Penn State’s Tyler Warren has all the trappings of an elite playmaker in the passing game, both as a matchup nightmare and explosive after the catch difference-maker.
Last season in Happy Valley, Warren caught 104 passes for 1,233 yards and eight touchdowns, while averaging 11.9 yards per reception.

Much of the conventional wisdom surrounding the Bears’ draft plans has suggested Chicago could be targeting offensive line up or an impact defender. But, Warren has been projected as high as No. 7 to the New York Jets and there is some belief among those inside the league that he could go off the board even higher than that.
Pro Football Focus points out that Warren’s 19 forced missed tackles ranked third in the nation while awarding him an elite 93.4 receiving grade.
If Johnson believes that adding Warren as a security blanket for Williams and moving the Bears’ offensive personnel closer to what he had with the Lions, the star tight end could be in play for the Bears at the No. 10 overall pick.
