1. Washington Commanders, Week 5
The Bears showed some spunk to start the 2022 season. The Bears came into last year’s Week 6 Thursday Night Football matchup with the Commanders with a 2-3 record. The Bears lost in an ugly 12-7 battler at Soldier Field in a game that felt like a turning point in the Bears season. And while they pulled an upset against the New England Patriots the next week, general manager Ryan Poles shut down the operation by trading Robert Quinn two weeks later.
If the Bears had won that matchup, they would have been 4-3 before the Quinn trade, and the season might have gone differently. But the Bears showed they didn’t have the firepower to overcome a beatable Commanders team in that game. This year’s Week 5 matchup will be a similar benchmark. The Commanders will be a Wild Card contender with an elite defense and a first-year starting quarterback. This is the type of game Fields, and the Bears must win if they want to slip into the playoffs as a Wild Card team this season.
