Alshon Jeffrey will be present for Chicago Bears mandatory minicamp, which begins on Tuesday.
Jeffrey had 54 catches last year for 807 yards and 3 touchdowns. While it was a down year for the 6-foot-3 wide receiver, it was the first year he was without former teammate Brandon Marshall meaning that Jeffrey faced a lot more double teams than he was used to. Still, the Bears couldn’t let their best offensive threat leave, thus, the franchise tag was given.
Alshon was in Florida training instead of attending the voluntary offseason training activities (OTA’s). The Bears would’ve undoubtedly preferred that Jeffrey attended those in an effort to get a head start on the new offense implemented by Dowell Loggains.
Jeffery’s agent Tory Dandy had positive things to say despite Jeffery missing those workouts:
“There is no contract dispute. Alshon is under contract. He signed the tag, so no dispute.”
Loggains takes over for previous offensive coordinator Adam Gase, who is now the head coach of the Miami Dolphins. Still, catching the Pro Bowl wideout up to speed about a few differences in the playbook shouldn’t be too hard to accomplish.
Mandatory minicamp begins Tuesday and runs until Thursday. There will then be a break before training camp begins July 27-August 9. Then they’ll practice with the New England Patriots in Foxborough from August 15-17.
