The Chicago Bears have informed veteran Roberto Garza that he will be released according to Brad Biggs.
The 36-year-old Garza signed a new one-year extension at the end of 2014 with only $75,000 guaranteed. To replace Garza, the team is expected to sign veteran center Will Montgomery. I’d also expect the team to explore the option of drafting a center sometime during the 2015 NFL Draft.
Garza has been a staple on the Bears offensive line since 2005 and brought more than just his play to the team. He was also a leader in the lockerroom after taking over the center position in 2011. Garza started in 145 of the 154 games he played for the Bears in 10 seasons.
Montgomery is familiar with the Bears coaching staff as he was a member of the Denver Broncos under John Fox last season.
