Week 14-18 (2-3)
In Week 14, the Chicago Bears take on the defending NFC champions, the San Francisco 49ers. This is another team the Bears want to emulate. San Francisco has a great defense to go with a great offense. Williams will learn a great deal from this game but will lose it, 23-14.
The Bears face the Vikings again in Week 15. This one is in Minnesota. The Bears win again, 37-23, sweeping the season series.
In Week 16 the Bears take on the Lions once again. Once again the Lions show Chicago who is the boss. This one goes down to the wire, but the Bears lose this one, 23-20. This is a tough lesson on what it takes for the young Chicago Bears to be a winning team.
It is now Week 17 and the Chicago Bears are feeling the pressure of trying to make the playoffs. They take on the Seattle Seahawks, Waldron’s former team. They fall flat and lose, 20-17.
The pressure is on the Chicago Bears even more now. They are 8-8 and a win means they go to the playoffs. However, that win has to be against the hated Packers. Can the Bears finally end all that torture and finally get past the Packers?
Well, they do. They put it all together and go down to Green Bay and pull off the improbable. The players do it for each other and their fans and take whatever Green Bay throws at them.
The Bears come out on top 27-17 and win a playoff berth. This is what the Chicago Bears fans have wanted. The players give them what they want.
The Chicago Bears finish the season 9-8 and earn a Wild Card spot. They do so while also finally beating their tormentors. It is a great ending to the regular season. We don’t know what will happen in the playoffs. However, this is an important step in Year 3 of the rebuild.
