What started as a potential win for the Chicago Blackhawks, turned into an absolute heartbreaker.
The Chicago BlackHawks are in the midst of an awful season and whenever they can steal a win is a victory in itself. In what started as another one of those rare wins turned into a heartbreaking loss to the Edmonton Oilers who rallied back to defeat the BlackHawks 4-3.
The potential for a win
The Blackhawk’s quickly got out to a 2-0 victory against the Edmonton Oiler’s in the first period with center Teuvo Teravainen scoring a goal at 4:45 into the period which was assisted by Jason Dickerson and Nick Foligno. Nick Foligno got on the board with his own goal with scoring at the 15:01 mark to make it 2-0 lead for the Blackhawks.
The Oilers didn’t take long to answer back with Vasily Podkolzin scoring just twenty-two seconds into the second period. The Chicago Blackhawks made sure to answer back with a goal of their own with Ryan Donato bringing the score to 3-1 in the Blackhawks favor.
The devastating comeback for the Oilers
The Edmonton Oilers weren’t going to go away quietly however with them mounting a fierce comeback to seal the Chicago Blackhawk’s fate. Oilers right wing Zach Hyman sealed the door shut with clinching the Blackhawks defeat with scoring the game winning goal for his 14th of the season of a power play in which he netted the goal at 7:18 and was assisted by Leon Draisaitl and Evan Bouchard.
The Chicago Blackhawks will look to erase this heartbreaking loss from their memory with having to turn around and play the Calgary Flames tomorrow. The Flames sit fifth in the Pacific Division in the Western Conference at 20-14 with 47 points. Hopefully the Blackhawks can bounce back and put another win on the board.
